Use Properly Sized Boxes
Save smaller boxes for your heavier items. Big, heavy boxes will not only make the moving process more difficult for everyone involved – including your removalist team – and they are also more likely to be damaged. Try to distribute weight evenly throughout your packed boxes. Lighter items like sheets and pillows can be packed into larger boxes without a problem.
Pack Each Box Completely
For the best moving experience, try to fill up the empty space in every box. This will help secure your items and keep the boxes balanced. Items that are free to move and tumble within their box are prone to breaking and shifting weight will make the box harder to transport. You can use packing paper to fill the gaps in each box, but it’s also an opportunity to use small, soft items like towels and clothes.
Make Sure Each Box is Sealed
Don’t pack your boxes to the point that they overflow and can’t be closed properly. Unsealed boxes are more difficult to move and they can’t be stacked. Open boxes also leave your belongings vulnerable to dirt and damage. If an item doesn’t fit well in a box, find another packing method. You can also use tape to not only seal a box but also reinforce areas that carry more weight and experience more stress, such as the top and bottom edges.
Label Your Boxes
Moving is a stressful time when your whole life is upended. Make it easier on yourself and label each box with its contents and the room where you intend to unpack it. This will help you and the removalist team transport and sort your belongings more effectively. Just be sure to use a trustworthy permanent marker — smeared labels won’t help anyone.
